Born on 1 July 1972
Claire Antonia Forlani is an English actress of Italian- descent.
- Although she is British, she has mostly played the role of American girls, so she had to master the American pronunciation.
- Although she is British, she has mostly played the role of American girls, so she had to master the American pronunciation.
- In 1999, Claire was nominated for the Saturn Award for the category Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1998 movie, Meet Joe Black.
Sexiness
She has a British mother and an Italian father, which means she is getting the best of both worlds: British class and an Italian full set of teeth.
Beyond the fact that she doesn't have dentures, Claire's slightly feline features have been sexy enough to at least raise the eyebrows of even the starchiest critics, and a few Hollywood big shots like ex-boy toy John Cusack and Brad Pitt.
At the age of 11, Forlani entered the Arts Educational School in London, where she began to study acting. During her six years at the school, she also studied dance, which led to performances on stage in The Nutcracker and Orpheus in the Underworld.
Claire was cast in a recurring role on the British television series Press Gang and Shrinks in the early '90s, and appeared as Katarina in the film Gypsy Eyes (a.k.a. CIA Trackdown), which required an 11-week shoot in Croatia.
In order to make it easier for their daughter to land more roles, Mr. and Mrs. Forlani relocated with Claire to San Francisco in 1993. It didn't take long for the green-eyed beauty to penetrate the US market, with her first role in an American production. She was cast as Ann Cannon in the television mini-series, J.F.K.: Reckless Youth in 1993, and appeared on the big-screen in the 7th outing of the Police Academy franchise, 1994's Police Academy: Mission to Moscow.
After a minor role in the 30-minute Showtime feature The Gift, Claire was finally given her opportunity to shine in a supporting role in the cult-favorite Mallrats. Director Kevin Smith immediately cast Claire in the role of American suburbanite Brandi Svenning, and only discovered that she was actually British after she was offered the role.
Finally in 1996, Claire was offered the role of Sean Connery's estranged daughter Jade in the blockbuster hit, The Rock, sharing the screen with heavy hitters Connery and Nicolas Cage. She also appeared in Basquiat that same year, and followed up with a starring role in the independent film, Garage Sale.
Claire was given the chance to prove herself in the 1997 film The Last Time I Committed Suicide, the critically-acclaimed role that could compensate for her previous good performances in what were simply disappointing films. She also had the smarts and confidence to walk off the set of Deep Rising, which could have made her career sink.
In 1998, Claire co-starred with the grim reaper (portrayed by Brad Pitt) in Meet Joe Black. The grim film made everyone wonder who the stunning beauty that had won Brad Pitt's heart onscreen was (in reality, she has stolen the heart of actor John Cusack), and Claire was hailed by Vanity Fair as one of 1998's up and comers.
That year she also starred in Basil with Christian Slater, and the romantic comedy Into My Heart (a.k.a. Elements). The following year Claire joined an A-list cast for the summer film Mystery Men, and co-starred with Freddie Prinze Jr. in the chick flick Boys and Girls.
Claire Forlani Quotes
“After I saw the first thing I ever did, I got a migraine.”
"As an actor you get used to being uncomfortable; if you're not in freezing cold water in the middle of winter, then you're bound and gagged."
"I'd been offered horror movies over the years but it is a genre that genuinely terrifies me until I can't sleep at night."
"But Basquiat is the first thing I've done that I'm really proud of. "
"Armani's clothes are beautiful and modern and I love him."
"I think as an actor, and especially as you get older, you can relate to so many more things and connect to things on a deeper level even if they haven't happened to you. You can find a place within yourself and you can connect to that. One of the beauties of acting is that as you get older, it's always challenging, but it's always an interesting journey. "
"I'm an illegal alien and have been for many years. If you rub my skin, I go green."
-Claire Forlani
on the question of being dramatic as a child
Claire: I was shy to start off with, but I liked to sing and dance around the house. I would escape into American TV and films - probably too much for my own good.
on the attention she got from doing "Meet Joe Black" and how it affected her
Claire: That was the year my mother was dying, and died, so to be honest it was so far from my mind. I missed all of that because I was in a very different place at that time
on interest in video games
Claire: That's something again that I haven't really explored. For some reason I haven't found myself sitting in front of the TV and doing it.
